"It's funny, if we do not show his face," says O'Connor. "But it is a device to keep the player invested in the character and the player is constantly reminded that she is not a hero, or they have a boy or a girl it should be, or what he may be."

O'Connor noted Valve Half-Life series, with silent protagonist Gordon Freeman as "extreme" philosophy. "The downside is that it may face in the field. Everybody knows what this character looks like, and to draw Gordon Freeman perfectly. You can not really do that with the Master Chief."
He added: "These are game elements, and you do not have these conversations necessarily characters the film and it does not matter, because the people with books to fill in the gaps."
